Welcome to the Attic
Where am I?
Hello, my name is Tess Voigt, and I’m the interdisciplinary artist behind Attic Menagerie—a whimsical space filled weird, playful and delightfully decorative works of art and other pieces. This body of work was born from my love of the handmade decorations and the cozy environments I’ve created in the many homes I’ve lived in.
Attic Menagerie is rooted in a philosophy I developed during art school, when I lived in an old attic apartment without a dedicated studio. Out of necessity, my creative process became experimental and home based—I bleached and dyed fabric with toilet bowl cleaner in my shared bathroom, printed blocks by stepping on them, and created nontraditional methods to complete assignments. This approach evolved into a mindset that blurs the line between art and craft and challenges the idea that an artist needs to spend a lot of money on studio space and supplies.
Through Attic Menagerie, I explore the domestic landscape—creating accessible, pieces that encourage you to see your homes as canvases in the same way that I do. This project feels very natural to me, so you may not see many repeats of projects. As I am able to spend more time on my artistic practice I will open my commissions for custom pieces if that is more of your style.
